Time Thieves

Time thieves are the bane of my life. They specialise in hunting out people who work from home and have all good intentions of working efficiently, effectively and economically. Time thieves are very clever at disguising themselves. I've managed to see though a few of the disguises of the "TTs" in my house.

See that dog, deeply asleep and very content that she had a walk only two hours ago ? Well, she needs another walk in the nice sunshine right now! She might even want to stop at the café and watch me drink a coffee. A "TT" has possessed my westie !

Now I hate doing the laundry - but that pile of dirty clothes over there? It keeps twitching. It beckons me. It drags my hands away from the computer keyboard until I start sorting piles of whites and coloureds. A "TT" has taken up residence in my unwashed smalls. Those "TTs" have no discretion.

I was sure that I put my knitting away last night - but there it is on the sofa. Well, you know, just to knit a few rows ... or maybe ten as demanded by the knitting TT. That wouldn't affect my productivity too much. Would it?

Hmmm. I might wash my hair.

Look at that cloud ! Isn't it beautiful ? It's surely productive for a writer to stand at her window and watch the clouds. It has to be good for her writer's soul to meditate for a while.

Oh ! Top of the hour - I'll just listen to the news then I'll get back to work.

Lunch time. That was a busy morning!

Ok - I'm not really that inefficient - but I do give in to those demanding Time Thieves from time to time. My worst ever Time Thief was a litter or puppies.

What was yours ?

Had to laugh at you post - I've had most of the same "TT" around my place, except for no pets.  My worst is if my roommate has the day off.  She's forever saying "can you take a break for 5 minutes" and she'll have something for me to do around the house.

Ah, I experienced these things when I was trying to write my thesis from home.

To start the morning off I just had to go for a walk - well, that is good for you, isn't it?

It was also amazing how dusty spaces that never bothered me over the weekend suddenly cried out to be wiped clean come Monday morning. They just wouldn't leave me alone some days.

And don't even get me started on what the 24 hour news channels demanded once I had access to them...
