Term Limits

On the surface it appears that term limits are the panacea that will solve dilemma of long-term legislators.

Actually, term limits serve to limit voters' rights and responsibilities. They are also in direct opposition to principles set forth in the U.S. Constitution.

Ultimately, term limits are a cop out and amount to throwing the baby out with the bath water.

In this day of instant gratification the majority of Nebraska voters apparently want a quick and easy fix to getting rid of long-term legislators. These folks might as well go to Staples and get "easy" button to solve the problem.

The only silver bullet that will rid legislative halls of legislators who have taken root is voter activism and participation. If voters want a rascal out it is their responsibility to vote him (her) out. Quick fixes don't and won't work. They lead to voter apathy and disengagement from the political process. These couch potatoes would rather throw marshmallows at the T.V. than actually get out, get organized and work hard for positive change.

Unfortunately this cotton candy approach is becoming more common among American citizens, so-called.
