This weekend, in Italy, many politicians and religious leaders are gathered at the World Congress of Families. Reportedly, they are fighting to “protect the Family”, the natural family, the traditional family. What they mean: the family of a strictly heterosexual, white, religious, married couple and their heterosexual, white, religious children. Women should not exercise any right over their bodies, their holy role is to stay home and procreate; those who dare to terminate a pregnancy for any reason are “murderous cannibals”. You have been diagnosed with breast cancer? Your fault, you should have had children in your twenties to reduce the risk. Women who do not give birth, for any reason, are described as “useless”. I said women? I beg you pardon, I meant white women. Immigrant women and their children are still free to die at sea, their life is not that sacred after all. Homosexuals, on their side, simply have no rights, at all: they are given choice between “being cured” or disappear in the flames of hell.

Many Italians are favourable to the points listed above. This disgusts me as Italian, as a woman, and as a decent human being.
