webo
I think is safe to assume that everybody knows what spam is these days. You know the annoying and most times unsolicited messages in your email inbox. Yes, now you know what I am talking about. There are unlimited ways to get signed up on lists that send these suspicious little messages to you now a days that it is literally impossible to completely avoid these pesky little messages. Maybe you just registered at a website and gave out your email address. Maybe you have been taken advantage of by some smart little script writer's spy ware. Or, maybe you have just posted your email address on a website or forum, this is a new method of gathering mass amounts of email addresses for these low level scammers out there. They use a spider much like search engines do that locates email addresses on a web page, thus making it not really safe or suggested to post you email address of forums. I can't solve all the worlds spam problems today, but I can show you how you can post you email address on forums and blogs without fear of web spiders snatching your email address and then, well you know.... Here are 2 of the most popular methods to help avoid this type of inconvenient web mayhem: 1. Use a javascript encoded email address. * This method works by literally scrambling your email address and then putting it back together as the link is actually clicked by somebody, so it cannot just be picked up from the html on page. * You can use this technique on some blogs, your own website, but not on most forums due to the fact that most forums to not process javascript. * Here is a free site that will make the code for you in a snap : http://rumkin.com/tools/mailto_encoder/simple.php 2. Post an image that shows your email address so users can then manually type in the email address. * This method is one of the low tech routes to correct this problem, but is also one of the most effective and easy to implement * Just make an image that has your email address on it and post the picture in your posts. * Want help, check this site out :http://blog.internetgecko.com/tools/gmail.php * This method also proves to be more versatile due to fact that most anywhere you can post simple html or VB rather a forum, blog, website or whatever * If you would like help making a image or have any questions you can email me at the address below. Hope somebody out there finds this helpful. Please post and let me know of other methods you guys may be using out there. I am always looking for the next "best way" to avoid spam.
