jojox360
I would not say that I am a master of the computer but I can say that I definitely know my way around one. I have always used the method of taking apart something and putting it back together to see how it works. About 2 years ago, I took apart my dell XPS 400 all the way down to the motherboard. The process of taking the computer apart took only about 20 minutes. However it took me 4 days to figure out how to put it back together. I would say that it was all worth it though. Whenever I needed something new like a D.V.D burner installed, instead of taking it to a computer store, I was able to do it myself and save some money. Graphics cards, R.A.M chips, and hard drives. You name it and I can most likely replace it.
webo
Hi, this is my seventh post, so I thought Id make a new thread. The topic of this thread is 'how proficient are you with computers' I'm basically a master. Well, now I wouldn't say I am a master, i generally try not to toot my own horn, but I am well versed in the technology field. I have worked with computers for about 15 years now, I am 30 years old and built my first website at 15, so I guess that was my first paid computer job. I have worked at local computer stores doing PC builds and repairs off an on. I have also, contracted myself out as a web designer and PC specialist for about 10 years now. And for a 5 year period I was part of the deployment and support team of the SACWIS project for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (D.C.F.S.). Of course it is pretty hard to enumerate ones knowledge and skill in any field, I find it even harder to do so in the computer world, due its always-evolving nature. One can be proficient using Cisco products but at the same time may not know how to manipulate the kernel of Red Hat Linux. Does that mean he is a genius or an idiot, who knows, it really depends upon what tasks are asked of him. Anyhow, I love working with computer and making money online. I hope I can continue to do so for years to come. Happy computer to all, Nick Simpson
Polly
I would say I am an intermediate computer user. I am pretty good with most of the well-known software packages and I hold the ECDL (Electronic Computer Driving Licence) qualification, which tests you in Basic PC skills, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access. I found the course really easy and knew a lot more stuff than I was actually tested on! I enjoy teaching myself computer skills too, so I have learnt HTML, CSS, and am trying to get to grips with JavaScript, but it's quite hard. I have made a couple of websites and used Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Flash for them, but I feel like I still have an awful lot to learn about these programs - they are so huge! I hold a Bachelor's degree in music, and one of my websites is also about music. I use a music processing software to create scores and then Photoshop to get them up on the site. I also use a MIDI conversion program to get sounds up on to the site. I am pretty good with computers compared to most non-experts I know, but I always want to know more! I would really love to understand more about the nitty-gritty inside computers and how to deal with things like viruses, as we have been plagued with a few despite having anti-virus software. Anyone know any good (free) online courses?
TARozzelle
Considering that I am writing this from my Ubuntu install, I would like to claim that I am proficient with computers. I primarily work as the server administrator and web designer for my parent's corporation and I can find my way around a server via a bash shell, to say the least. Unfortunately, there are many persons using the internet, much like there are driving automobiles, who cannot delineate RAM from hard-drive memory and, for this reason, there are some true design atrocities on the internet. While attempting to market a blog with the aid of entrecard, I have come across more than a few of these websites which proffer sensory overload at the expense of usability. I say take away their licenses.
Tammy
I am not the best, but I'd like to consider myself a novice when it comes to computers. I have formally taken computer networking. I taught myself HTML before even considering going back to school and liked it so much that I decided to go back to school and further pursue my interests. My favorite class was computer programming while I was in school. I like it and do well with it. If my family or friends have a computer problem they always call me to run fix it, so I must be doing something right.
Grace
I have been using computers for twenty-five years. In that length of time, I have taught myself how to use the major office suites in order to be successful at any job I am performing. I do have a college education, but did not major in computers or business. However, I do find that with enough dedication and determination I can learn anything I need to succeed. I have three desktop computers, my laptop and office computers that I have fixed over the years. I would have to say that I am pretty proficient when it comes to computers. esper_d
My mom is a teacher so every summer when we had off from school, she was able to bring a computer home for us to play with. I learned how to use a computer at a very young age. There is SO much I don't know about computers, yet there is a wealth of information and tools I DO know and it is not very difficult for me to learn new things. So when the opportunity arises to learn something new, I take to it very quickly.
ThirdEye
I would like to consider myself pretty savvy with computers. I use one everyday at work and also I spend a majority of my time at home with them as well. I took a few college courses on building computers, and on photoshop and illustrator. I've worked with a lot of modding software, usually for creating levels and such for video games. I by no means think that I know a lot about computers because there is always more to be learned. I want to go back to school to learn get some certifications, but my kids keep me busy in the evenings so more schooling is on the back burner now. I would be content working with and around computers all day, I seem to be a sponge whenever I am!
Guest flowerhorn
At times my partner seems to get jealous over my love for computer. Maybe it has replaced my partner as the one that I love the most in my life as I am stuck with it more than 12 hours a day. Aside from using it online, I also know how to repair it as well as do some assembly programming and I/O (input/output) interfacing with it. Jay
I am not the biggest tech freak ever to walk the face of the earth, in fact, I don't care about how these devices are built or how they work at all. I am one of those people that just use them and buy new ones when ever the existing one dies or breaks.
meiguoren
Since I'm the IT manager where I work, I guess I should be pretty proficient with computers. Some of the people here at work are not even close to being proficient and I am grateful for them because they are the reason I am employed. slippers
Since I'm the IT manager where I work, I guess I should be pretty proficient with computers. One would hope! Haha. As for me, I don't have any technical qualifications aside from my own upbringing. As a child of the 90s, I grew up around computers. I went from playing computer games on those huge floppy disks, to the normal 3 1/2 disks, to CDs, to DVDs, to right now, playing on my TV. After buying my first desktop, I started to tweak it little by little, changing the hardware and software. It's gotten to the point where I'm the "go to guy" of computers for the entire family and my friends. Not to mention I helped a nearby public school with network problems they've been having, and I taught the IT guy a thing or two! Right now I'm running Ubuntu 8.10, having given up on Windows and am learning the whole bash code little by little.
pbk
Well I am using computers since last 7-8 years and I have learned much about it. I am using it for my daily office routine as well as I have earned my side income from assembling and selling PCs. I have worked for few months in a Cyber Cafe as a Network Manager. I have also managed network of a local company for about a year. So yes, I am quite proficient with computers.
radiantph
I am not an expert at the depth parts of the computer, you know, sort of like creating a Javascript, Ajax, PHP, MySQL Database, building software programs and such. I'll classify myself as an "intermediate" user. I'm always learning but never enough.
Guest subhajit
Well, I will describe myself very much a tech savvy. It was not more than two years or so when I used to know a little about computers. But, as I took my step from high school to college for pursuing my B.Tech course, I convinced my father to purchase a computer for mine. It was from that period when I got to learn about computers and now I feel very much comfortable using this multitasking machine. I was very much excited then thinking I can do whatever I like on my own computer and had a opinion that computers are only the source of ultimate entertainment. There were days when I used to play various games through out a day. It was when I felt I need some more pocket money to enjoy with my friends and most importantly to gain some confidence, I started offering freelance services which includes various SEO related projects. I was very elated the moment when I was successful in generating sufficient funds for myself. I fell proud to say that I am continuing to provide my services on a continual basis. Besides these, as far as my computer proficiency is concerned, I am having better understandings of programming languages like C, C++. Among all these, I feel much more satisfied when I am able to overcome successfully the various problems which come by in the computers among my friends and others.
