AtMyKeyboard
Many families have pets, and like everything else, pets eventually die. Hiding this fact from children can cause several issues to develop. Death is scary, but when someone a child trusts talks to them honestly about death and the fears the child has, this part of life becomes less overbearing and frightening. When a pet dies, the children who were involved in caring for it should be able to say their good-byes to that pet. Finding a substitute or saying it ran away keeps children from experiencing a part of life that can help prepare them for losses later on in their lives. Quote Link to comment
