Raising an Autistic Child

I realize that this is a broad topic; what I will be doing here is sharing a bit of what has worked for me.  My son was diagnosed in 2001, when there were far fewer resources than there are today.  The first thing I did was pray for him to be supernaturally healed by God.  I have seen enough progress in his life to believe that God is healing him, day by day.  The second step was research.  I was attending the local University at the time, so I had a huge library at my disposal.  Third was choosing to stay home with my son, rather than seeking employment after graduation.  I took my son to many appointments, which in my area means driving at least an hour to see various specialists.  I also spent many hours in meetings with school officials, always seeking the best place for my son.  Additionally, I didn't leave his entire education in the hands of those officials.  I taught my son, and continue to teach him today, everything I can.  Currently, we are working on learning the city busses.  After all, I won't be on this earth forever, and he needs to be as independent as possible, in order for him to have the best life possible!
