E.M. Skies
Once one achieves a certain amount of wealth, should they have to donate to charitable organizations? There has been lots of talk about the "1%," those who hold the most wealth in the United States. Many extremely wealthy people donate thousands, even millions, of dollars to charity and/or create their own charities. Reasons for these donations may vary from wanting to help those in need, to wanting a tax deduction, but does the reason matter in your opinion? More importantly, are you in the camp that those who have earned or inherited wealth should have to give up some of that money to the "greater good," or should the wealthy be able to do whatever they want with their money? gashin4
For me, it doesn't really matter the reason why one decided to make donations. If the outcome is helping people in need, then why would I mind their personal reasons? We focus too much on criticizing and forget to take action. Since our world is so unfairly divided right now and many people are in danger, I believe that the ones who are wealthy should have to aid the countries and/or the people who don't have food on their table, don't have a roof over their heads, can't afford electricity bills, can't afford education, and the list goes on. If they receive the aid to be able to eat, study and get a job, soon they will change their lives and won't depend on donations anymore. And I assure you, once they are able to afford for themselves, they will be helping others too. I'm saying this because I've been there, done that. If we build a chain of good, we can at least fight the bad and the hardships together instead of divided in our differences. Quote Link to comment
