michaelmartin
Do birds make use of fire? Amazingly the answer is 'YES!' Kites and Falcons, called "Firehawks" by native Australians, are now known to carry burning sticks from a natural fire to unaffected areas to spread the fire! The reason being to cause rodents, reptiles and insects to flee the area and thus become easy prey for the birds. The indigenous people have long known this, hence the name of the birds, but modern science has only recently caught up with their knowledge. Previous accounts of avian use of fire have always been dismissed or viewed with great scepticism. What else could we learn from 'Traditional Knowledge'? Quote Link to comment
