Going "Pastel" A Hairy Decision

Pastel colored hair is all the rage right now.  From the  stunning pale rainbow shades that my friend Erin wears, to Cyndi Lauper's pretty pink tousled tresses, it doesn't really matter your age.  It is the choice of color that will either generate an "ahhhhh" or an "ugh."

I have thought of going pastel myself, but what color would look best on me and how do I choose?  Do I do a patch test and wait to see how it looks, grow it out and try another?  Can I get a "color swatch" card and hold it up to my face and decide that way?  Do I cut before or after coloring?  What kind of "do" will look best on an old lady of 61?  I want to keep up with the trends and I am always up for trying something different, but what color?  So many questions and I am not sure what the answers are. Therein lies the rub.

I thought of going total silver (not a pastel color at all) or a concrete (more pastel), but I thought it would make me look older and I would like to shave at least 5 years off my age.  I then thought, "Gee I LOVED the look that female lead of the 80's band Berlin wore back in the day.  I will never forget her platinum blond short pageboy with the perfect black bottom border.  Stunning and very sophisticated. It still takes my breath away.   But that would be too retro, don't you think?  No, I gotta go pastel, but at my age, it is truly a 'hairy" decision.
