biochemmolgen
It's summertime, and there's a massive heatwave sweeping the country. Friends and family members already have plans to go to the beach in the hopes of beating the heat. You-on the other hand- have no plans to travel...you have made it your mission to go on a cheaper vacation in the creased pages of a used book. It's been sitting on your desk since Christmas, so why not dive in? Quote Link to comment
phoenixrick
Sometimes not doing something is the best decision you can make. For example, going on an extravagant vacation vs. staying home, unwinding and enjoying a great book instead. Vacations can be wonderful, but how many times have you heard people who have returned from their vacation who seemed more stressed out than before they left? I think many of us have witnessed this. Considering the cost, the time, the preparations before hand, dealing with the stress of "catching up" when you get home etc. vs. staying home, experiencing and learning from a good book and saving money can be the most intelligent alternative. Zeyn0
I am actually not going on vacation this year. I have been sick for a long time and I find comfort in books. I have visited great places without leaving my room. Books allow me to travel through time as well. That's why history books are my favorite. Quote Link to comment
acepaid001
When I saw the title of this post, I was struck by the sense of urgency it tells me about the need to go back into reading and by this, we mean , holding a book and reading it page by page, and rereading the pages that made a difference in our life. Reading is an act of intellectual humility as one writer observed, because in reading, and not just browsing online, we get to feel the thoughts of another person or writer with an open mind and much gusto.
