memorycord85
Has anyone seen any of the new movie offerings this summer? I l enjoy a good entertaining movie as much as anyone but so many movies these days just seem like they're churned out with the same formula by the Hollywood machine. Where's the originality? Where's the artist's vision and unique perspectives which made filmmaking so powerful and influential decades ago?? It is an art form after all, isn't it? Don't get me wrong, I know it's escapism for many of us and we just want to be entertained. But is it too much to ask to be inspired? Is it unusual if once in a while I want to leave the theater with a complete thought or two that I can reflect on rather than a ringing sound in my ears from one too many explosions? Of course, my feelings changed recently after seeing the Spike Lee film, Blackkklansman (2018). The film is based on true events and is a strong work on Race and Racism in America (It's also quite comical and entertaining by the way). I was very impressed after seeing the movie but more so, I was appreciative and relieved to see a unique voice and artistic vision successfully deliver a film that respects the visual art form that Film can truly represent. I don't want to spoil this movie for anyone, but it was released nearly one year since the Riots in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, in which (and I didn't know this until watching the movie) a young woman lost her life. Overall, the film had everything I expect a quality film to be but also much, much more. The finale and ending may have laid it on a bit heavy but considering that the film treats on a very deep and dark problem in our nation's history, I felt it was well done. Has anyone seen this film? If so, what are your thoughts, feelings, reactions? If anyone hasn't seen it, I would recommend giving this film a shot!! Quote Link to comment
jackinthebrokenbox84
I am a little late to the game but I do have a suggestion for summer of 2019. Spider-Man Far From Home is going to be, I feel, one of the best Spider-Man movies to date. With the recent (spoiler alert), death of Tony Stark and the after math of End Game this is sure to be an instant must see! Not only does Peter Parker have to deal with the loss of his mentor Tony Stark, which was a devastating blow to Peter. He now has to deal with the threat of losing some of the closest people to him. So if you are in the mood for an action packed emotional rollercoaster of web-swinging fun than this is the movie for you! Quote Link to comment
