Will EMP be the end of America?

I have recently been looking into conspiracy theories concerning EMP. EMP stands for Electro Magnetic Pulse. This is something that is used to destroy electrical pulses. There is a theory that if a country wanted to attack America, an EMP attack would be most successful. This is because America's power grid is relatively weak/ hasn't been updates for a long time. Henceforth, a powerful enough EMP attack would destroy all power to America.

I think this a very interesting concept, and would like to know if anyone else has any thoughts on this.
