Long Distance Relationships and Technology

I have been in a long distance relationship for 11 months now, and though it has been challenging, I do appreciate the things that I've learned about myself. One thing I can't help but wonder about is how my relationship with my partner will change whenever we are in close proximity with each other.  For example, at night my cell phone is beside me because his pictures are usually what I look at before bed. Will things change once our technological devices are out of the picture?
