How Can Someone Deal With Harsh Rejection?

Just this evening, a friend texted me upset. When I asked her what was wrong, she replied, "I have been dealing with the pain of the last two weeks, knowing that I thought I found love in someone who ended up not wanting to be with me at all." Once she told me who it was, I was appalled, not that he rejected her, but in the manner which he did. She has given so much of herself to him for the last year. How does he repay this? The guy sent gifts back to her on her stream and then told her he didn't want to be with her when she said she wanted to get on a train to visit him.

I tried to advise her the best I could, but nothing I said helped the situation. Does anyone have some advice I could give to her?
